This is a meditation that is very simple and designed to get you to balance your concentration with your awareness.
Start by sitting or laying in a comfortable position. Start by focusing on your breath. Try to clear your mind, this does not mean that you should stop thinking, you should just ignore your thoughts for now.
So after you have cleared your mind, choose a topic, any topic you wish. Now focus your attention on that topic, but this time be open to any relevant thoughts that arise in your mind.
This teaches you balance between concentration and awareness and also helps with contemplation.
