The Kenaz Rune is fire under human control. It is represented in the torch as apposed to the raw and archetypical fire of Fehu. Kenaz is the fire of creation, the hearth and the forge. This creation is not that of Fehu which is the “Big Bang” creation. Kenaz creation is human will directed creation. The Kenaz fire of creation is like the kiln in pottery or the fire to cook your dinner, the forge to make a sword. Kenaz is the fire of creation, the funeral pyre. The Norse believed you cremate the body so the spirit will know to leave the husk spent form (body). This fire includes the fire of sacrifice. Here Animal Sacrifice was how the Norsemen acknowledged the law of predation. Animals were not uselessly killed. All sacrificed animals were eaten. It was there way of saying “grace” before a meal. The Animal fed the tribe. The fire cooked and cleansed it and was considered away to share the hunt with the gods. It was considered then symbolically the animal “sacrificed” itself to feed the tribe. This ritual was a way of acknowledging that a life must die for another life to live. The ancients were more solemn and respectful than modern people who acknowledge this. Today we call it survival of the fittest and coldly with contempt treat them as vanquished. Fire by the ancients was always seen as transforming and a regenerating force weather the fire be controlled Kenaz fire or in it’s raw power in nature like Fehu.
Kenaz is the Rune of human creation which makes it the Rune of the artists and craftsmen. It is also the Rune of the magician and the technical aspects of magic. Kenaz is the controlled power of the psyche combined with the controlled energy of nature, and the results is a crafted object. In today’s world this would be the Rune of the engineer who builds some device like a damn that is also a hydroelectric plant using water power to generate electricity. Nikola Tesla would best embody this Rune. Or it could be the use of those giant wind mills to get power from the wind to generate electricity. Kenaz is knowledge combined with ability. Knowledge and technical lore is embodied in the “K” Rune. The mystery of the creation of the third (person, being) from the combination of the two opposites combine to bring manifestation. In short the “K” Rune is the mystery of the birds and the bees. Kenaz is human passion, lust and sexual love as positive attributes. The Norsemen did not view sex in the Judeo-Christian fashion but honored it as how life is created. It was not seen as “Sin”. Kenaz also embodies the emotional root of all creation and created objects, the artist and how he feels. Kenaz also embodies the concept of kin., especially the connection between living relatives and the dead members of the clan, existing as a conscious life force. Here the Norsemen have some commonality with the Japanese Shinto.
Magical Workings
1, Strengthening of abilities in all realms.
2, Creative inspiration.
3, Higher polarization as a tool of operation.
4, Operations of regeneration, healing.
5, Love (especially sexual love).
Draw the rune in red. To draw the Kenaz or “K” Rune, just imagine an open pare of scissors. Draw the cutting part with out the handle. Or think of a “K” with out the perpendicular line, just the angled lines.
Meditate on Rune breathing rhythmically and pronounce it three times. Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz. An alternate way to do this is to pronounce with feeling, from the gut English words but emphasizing the “K” sound. Example Checkkkk., Jackkk and so on. This is less ritualistic but if you get the energies up you have achieved your goal. I know of someone who does this informal method and gets good results. Again how you practice is up to you.
Stance (optional).
Stand upright with the right arm raised at a 45 degree angle, while the left arm is lowered by the same amount. The palm of the right hand faces outward, drawing power, while the fingers of the left hand are pointed, projecting into manifestation.
