I would appreciate if someone could post an exercise or a meditation which will help me concentrate on what I am currently doing, to cast away all thoughts that I don't need or those that will interfere in what I am currently doing and thus prevent me from doing it right/well.
Thanks in advance.

Here's a site on concentration exerciser's I've used all them. with success. www.successconsciousness.com/index_000005.htm It says to only do one at a time in succession but i did two or three at a time. my advice start one exercise for 5 min and add 1 min a day. until you get to 10 min My favorite is counting back-wards from 200. if i reach 0 before my times up i count up. i vary it with odd and even numbers. this also works really well if you find yourself walking around or working. just tell your unwanted thoughts to stop and start counting odds or even numbers. The key i found is to give it as much awareness as you can manage. it might not feel like it's working at first but give it a week or two and you'll see a major difference.

one more thing i learned in my training. ether sit or lie down. in a position that you won't fall asleep in. take a few calming breaths. and simple watch your thoughts. don't try to stop them don't judge them. Just watch them from the point of a silent and attentive observer. try to make it a point of remembering as many of them as possible. Again start with 5 min and work up to 10. the more you pay attention and are aware of your thoughts the more the come under your control
hope these help

here's two more cents
this is from Julius Evola's doctrine of awakening
1. Substitution- every time the thought arises catch it and substitute something helpful. from mantras to something your trying to learn,
2.expulsion-associate feelings of disgust and revulsion towards the thought. make something vile and unworthy in your eye.
3.dissociation- remove the thought from you and you from it. imagine your some one else watching you and your thoughts. you can even do this with your actions.(this one helps you to see how foolish we can be sometime.)
4. dismemberment-- pull the thought or emotion apart. piece by piece and analyze each part and why it's like it is. it's origins its motive it's cause
5. direct action-- suppress the thought in all forms when it appears attack it with everything you have.
