Hagalaz is the cosmic ice egg which is filled with crystallized magical power and cosmic pattern. The hailstone is the symbol of the yeasty rime egg that contains the seed of Ymir the primal rime giant. Ymir was formed from the meeting of world fire and world ice. Hagalaz as the egg form is the symbol of completeness and potential energy. As long as it is dormant and in egg form it is potential energy. But embodied in the Hagalaz is the dynamic generating, when fire (energy) meets ice (antimatter) causing a great explosion creating the rime-giant which is where everything in the universe comes from. Considering this Folk tale of creation of the universe was told before people wrote things down and later when written when the runic alphabet was invented it is practically describing events that happened just before, during and immediately after the “Big Bang”.
The Hagalaz rune embodies eternal cosmic harmony. Here harmony is the balance of forces in the universe, the balance of nature. Hagalaz is the ninth rune in he runic alphabet. Nine is the most important number in Norse mythology because it is the most sacred and mysterious. There are nine worlds of Yggdrasill. Odin hung on a tree for nine nights to get knowledge, magic and the runic alphabet. The ninth day after a child is born is “naming” day and it is considered that the spirit connected to that body. The number nine, to the Norsemen is as important as the number eight is to the Hebrews. On the eighth day, to the Hebrews, the baby is considered clean and circumcised. The number nine, to the Norsemen, is the number of completeness that leads to birth of greater power and productivity. Hagalaz is also the rune mother because out of her womb came all the runes.
Hagalaz is a rune of protection due to the shape of the snow flake that the “H” rune represents. This protection is the kind that happens when nature and the cosmos brings things back into balance.
Magical Workings
1, Completeness and balance of power.
2, Knowledge, mystical experience, divine presence, feeling at one with the Force, the sensation of divine presence.
3, Evolutionary, becoming operations
4, Protection
Draw the rune by making a letter “H” except the middle line of the “H” is at an angle from left to right. Meditate breathing rhythmically and pronounce the rune three times. Hagalaz, Hagalaz, Hagalaz. Hhhhhhhhh Repeat this for five minutes until you get to twenty minutes.
This time I will not describe the stance since it is an elaborate dance based on the six sided figure of the snow flake. You would loose concentration by focusing too much on steps and hand waving that you will nullify the magic.
