I have read all sorts of accounts about the distant past where people had much more psychic/Force ability, and I always wondered why no one has it much any more. Did man have it long ago and lost it, or is it legend, and it is a new desired ability to be gained?
If we lost it, and we are but a shadow of the great wizards of long ago, then why did we lose it? The book I am currently reading, SHADOWS OF FORGOTTEN ANCESTORS by Carl Sagan, may offer one possible explanation. He tells of a story of creatures that ended up going in a cave and staying there in the darkness. Initially they had eyes like any other creature. Over many generations, they lost their eyesight. Why? As happens even with people, some are born blind. Usually blind creatures are at such a disadvantage that they are devoured before they can breed. This keeps blindness out. But what if it did not matter? Who needs to see in a cave anyway? The blind ones would breed like anyone else and make more blind ones. Given time, eyes would fall by the wayside. Sagan says that there are the remains of what used to be legs and feet in snakes and in whales. There are birds whose wings do not fly. If you don't use it, you lose it.
I wondered then, did we have Force abilities that are now lost because they did not need to be used for human survival? We used more muggle means so the trait was bread out?
Or, we never had them and it is a new emerging trait? It is a desired trait by many, and that became apparent after people saw the Star Wars films?
To establish as a trait, Force sensitives would have to pass on their genes more so than non-Force-sensitives. If Force sensitivity and ability became necessary to survive, that could happen.
Another possibility, people do have the ability right now and don't know it. It is a dormant ability. I remembered watching a demonstration by this martial artist who did a monkey style art. He moved just like a monkey as if he tapped into humans' primate past and rekindled some of the abilities and agility of monkeys. Apparently there is a lot of unused monkey abilities hidden in our DNA. Perhaps certain Force ability may be there also.
Thoughts?
